Homework Guide
The children have mastered the kindergarten routine and are ready to receive homework each night. Please refer to this guide for homework expectations and directions. As always, let us know if you have any questions.
§ All homework should be turned in on Friday in your child’s Daily Folder. Please make sure that baggie books are returned in the baggie. Make sure that these books are placed in a safe place where they will not get ruined. They are difficult to replace.
§ All written homework should be done in pencil. Pictures can be done in crayon.
§ All work must be labeled with your child’s name.
§ All work should be neatly and carefully written so that it is easily read.
§ Be sure to check over all work.
§ When writing, be sure to let your child use his/her own words. We do not expect kindergarteners to spell every word correctly. They should be using dominant sounds and some high frequency words. They should use left to right, top to bottom directionality. Eventually they will use punctuation marks and begin to use capital and lower case letters appropriately.
§ Remember to remind your child to do his/her best.
§ Your child will receive a new Homework calendar electronically each month. Please keep it in a safe place. You will also receive recording sheets electronically. You can choose to print them and use them to record written assignments or you can choose to record written assignments on paper of your choice.
Parents: Each assignment is a review of material that has been taught in class. The children should be able to do the assignments with little assistance from you. Please read the directions to your child and provide them with the materials needed to complete the activity. I expect that the writing be the children’s work. Please do not write or spell the words for your child. Our goal is to create independent and creative thinkers. Thank you for all of your support.
